Have been thinking about AI and creation. Not because I know anything, but just because I’ve been thinking.
Thought about the Text Singularity.
Thought about the possibilities and threats for academic publication.
And then, I thought, “Wait, I can use AI visual creators to make illustrations for a lot of the things I have written.”
One of the best known is the elderly German lady in a parking garage, with a shopping cart. (The story, if you don’t know it….)
And there it is: immediately, a pretty disturbing image of the elderly woman. Took about 5 seconds.
If you work with it another 5 seconds, you can make it a lot more impressionistic. Notice that this is a VERY specific request, and the AI does exactly what I asked for, I guess BECAUSE it is very specific.
Cool.
On the positive side of bots as the new academic star, they have been of great assistance to me in reading papers from disciplines that I am unfamiliar with yet interested in - use them as a shortcut search for technical terms that appeared in the paper but for merely peripheral functions saved me huge amounts of time searching them in your textbooks. Another role the bots may play in mass produced journal papers is that bots can detect misconducts in data analysis automatically - filtering out the junks, the gems will still be retained
